Over the past several weeks, buyers at Plato's Closet in Cape Girardeau have bought gently used clothes and accessories from local sellers.

Those items soon will be available to shoppers throughout the region: Plato's Closet is preparing for its grand opening at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The store caters to young adults. According to Marla Teter, who owns the Cape Girardeau location as well as two stores in Georgia, their target customers are between 12 and 28.

Plato's Closet aims to carry an inventory of current styles. Buyers tend to buy clothes that were in retail stores in the last 12 to 18 months.

"We don't try to create new fashion trends. We respond to actual trends in a timely and value-oriented manner," Cole Teter, manager of the Cape Girardeau location, said in a news release.

In March, Marla Teter told the Southeast Missourian she expects a big crowd in the 5,000-square-foot showroom on opening day.

"There are people that just follow Plato's Closet because they love to go to those grand openings," Teter said.
