PLANT SALE SATURDAY AT ARENA PARK

The Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs will host its annual plant sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Missouri Conservation Shelter in Arena Park.

The clubs will sell an assortment of 10 inch hanging baskets including ivy geranium, impatients, begonia, torch begonia and ferns. Bedding plants will also be sold, including petunias, geraniums, coleus, impatients, marigolds, alyssum, dusty miller and portulaca.

"Perriennals of all kinds will also be available for the gardener who doesn't want to have to replant every year. These can be mixed with annuals for a very showy spot in the garden," said Lynn Westrich, of the Ramblewood Garden Club.

All proceeds from the sale will go toward the upkeep of the Rose Garden at Capaha Park. Last year, the council raised $1,700 for the rose garden upkeep, and Westrich said they hope to do better this year. "We have a lot more plants and a lot more varieties this year," she said.

She said the sale will include plants for both the experienced and novice gardener.

The clubs will also have spike plants, ivy, hostas, Japanese and Siberian irises, day lilies and tropicals.

The Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs is comprised of the Cape Girardeau Garden Club, Four Seasons Garden Club, Ramblewood Garden Club, River Hills Garden Club, and Rose Hills Garden Club.
