PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission on Tuesday agreed to help the village of Dutchtown if it receives the buyout grants it seeks.

The flood-prone community has applied for a Federal Emergency Management Agency buyout program.

The FEMA program would cover 75 percent of the cost of the buyout; a community development block grant through the state would pick up part of the tab for the 25 percent match, Chauncy Buchheit, executive director of the commission, has said.

At its meeting Tuesday afternoon, the commission unanimously approved a request for authorization to contract with the village to administer the grants in the event that Dutchtown receives them.

The village has dealt with repeated flooding over the years. Volunteers sandbagged in June to protect the area, and the village experienced major flooding in 2011 and 2008.

Pertinent address:

Dutchtown, MO
