Cape Girardeau's Planning and Zoning Commission denied a rezoning request for a property on North Park Avenue Wednesday night.

The commission voted 8-1 to deny the request of Lois H. Walther to rezone 381 N. Park Ave. from R-4 multiple family residential to R-2 single family residential.

R.J. McKinney, commission chairman, said granting the request would constitute spot zoning, "and we've tried to stay away from that."

The Walther property and neighboring properties are zoned R-4 but actually contain single-family homes.

Walther did not attend Wednesday night's meeting. No one spoke for or against the request.

Voting against the request were McKinney, George Bockhorst Sr., Tom Mogelnicki, Tom Holshouser, Jim Ramage, Charlie Hauboldt, Bob Blank and Harry Rediger. Bob Cox voted in favor of the request.

In other action, the commission approved a record plat for McClane Outlot No. 1 at William and Broadview. The plat subdivides the current eight-acre lot, which now includes Silk Tree Factory, into two lots.
