SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- An Indiana pilot headed to Springfield for a weekend excursion was forced to make an emergency landing on a Greene County highway when his plane ran out of gas.
The Springfield News-Leader reported the pilot signaled the Springfield-Branson National Airport around 2:30 p.m. Saturday that he was trying to land on the highway.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the pilot had to navigate past power lines and oncoming traffic to land at the top of a hill on Missouri 13.
Patrol spokesman Sgt. Jason Pace says two women and two men on the plane weren't hurt. FAA records show the plane is owned by a not-for-profit flying club that rents its planes to customers.
Pace said the plane would be towed away from its landing site.
