DUDLEY, Mo. -- A 53-year-old Fisk, Mo., man died in a rural plane crash Saturday morning
Authorities said Richard Bowie died shortly before noon after his lightweight aircraft crashed in a field just southwest of Dudley.
Bowie was a well-known flier from the area and, according to family members at the wreckage site, he built the small aircraft in which he perished.
Also according to family members, no one saw the plane going down, but a Dudley resident spotted the wreckage shortly after it crashed and found the pilot still conscious and attempting to get out of the plane.
Bowie died, however, before emergency personnel could reach the scene.
FFA officials are investigating the crash.
