A chartered flight carrying E! Networks founder Jarl Mohn and his family made an emergency landing Saturday afternoon at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.

"There was some smoke, the pilot shut down the engine and we landed," said Mohn, now chairman of the board of the interactive media company CNET. "The pilot did a great job."

The Hawker 800 touched down about 2:30 p.m.

Pamela Orwin Mohn, Jarl Mohn's wife, said the family, which includes daughters Katrina, 23, and Larkin, 17, was headed to her hometown of Somerset, Ky. They planned to attend a dinner and the dedication the Pulaski County Public Library's Kentucky History Room, which is being named for Pamela Mohn's late parents, Don and Eva Orwin.

She wasn't sure if the family would reach Somerset on time.

With the help of airport workers, the Mohns were trying to book another flight, though Katrina Mohn was not eager to be airborne so quickly.

"I figure we're in good shape for the next flight," Pamela Mohn said.

"It's like flipping a coin," Katrina corrected her from across the room. "We have exactly the same chance of it happening again."

Faced with the possibility of six-hour car trip, however, Katrina said she was willing to board another plane.
