PIZZA RESTAURANT EXPANSION INCLUDES NEW SPORTS LOUNGE

SCOTT CITY -- Checker Pizza has become Checker Pizza & Sports Lounge here.

"We're expanding our menu, adding billiards tables, shuffleboard, and a dart board." said Jack Johnson, an owner of the business which opened in May of 1990 at 1110 main. St. "We're trying to make a fun place out of the operation."

Johnson added that he eventually wanted to install a big-screen television.

"We're also looking into sponsoring a crappie fishing tournament and a golf tournaments later this year," said Johnson.

Pizza will continue to be the leading menu item, but other choices will include Mexican food, and a half-pound Checkerburger.

"Future plans are to added sirloin steak and catfish to the menu on once a week.

Hours for the restaurant/lounge, which seats about 50, will from 9 .a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Free food was available from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, during a grand re-opening, and live entertainment was provided Saturday night.

"We plan to have live entertainment occasionally," said Johnson.

Johnson and his wife, Joan Johnson, are owners of the restaurant. It is managed by daughter-in-law Ann Johnson.

Johnson was involved in insurance several years. He worked with All State Insurance several years before founded his own company. He was an owner in Giddens-Johnson Insurance Co. until 1990.
