RINGGOLD, Ga. (AP) -- Dozens of vehicles piled up in a chain-reaction crash on a foggy interstate highway Thursday morning, killing at least 10 people, authorities said.
The accident, involving 50 to 100 vehicles, happened around 7:50 a.m. on Interstate 75 just south of Chattanooga, Tenn., said Karlene Barrow, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Video from the scene showed tractor trailers piled up on top of cars and ambulance crews laying sheets on the highway to treat the injured.
Barrow said at least 10 people were killed. Officers at the scene reported numerous injuries.
Seven adults and one child were being treated at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, authorities said.
The Georgia State Patrol closed the interstate in both directions and advised motorists to avoid the area.
