A piano workshop geared toward teaching techniques to be beginning and intermediate students will be held Friday at Southeast Missouri State University.
Sponsored by the Southeast Area Music Teachers' Association and hosted by the university's music department, the workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 203 of Brandt Music Hall.
Donal Beattie, chairman and director of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in piano pedagogy of the School of Music at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, will introduce some of his original compositions for young pianists during the workshop.
In addition, Beattie will present his "Guide to the Masters," a method of introducing piano music to classical literature.
Beattie is the founder and director of the Beethoven Society of Pianists and is the United States' clinician for G. Henle Publications of Munich, Germany. He has written a four-volume course of piano study that includes 70 original compositions.
