Plans for the publication of a history of Cape Girardeau are being made at the Southeast Missourian.
The book will be an oversized volume featuring numerous photographs of the city as it appeared in the 1800s and into the recent past. Target date for the book is summer 1993.
Writing, layout, printing and distribution of the book will be handled through Concord Publishing House and its divisions.
In order to acquire a wide variety of photographs for this publication, the Southeast Missourian is asking for readers' help. During normal business hours in March, those wishing to submit photographs for possible inclusion in the book may bring them to the newspaper offices at 301 Broadway.
For more information about the book, contact the newspaper librarian, Sharon K. Sanders, at 335-6611.
Copies will be made of all pictures submitted, and the originals will be returned quickly to their owners. While they are being copied, the original photographs will not leave the Missourian Building.
Any information that could be provided about the photographs, such as when they were taken, by whom, identities of those pictured and where the photos were made, will also be useful to the effort.
Any photograph dealing with life in Cape Girardeau will be welcomed. Street scenes, old businesses, homes, sporting events, portraits of early settlers, and so on, will find places in the upcoming publication, which will cover a wide variety of topics, including business and industry, transportation, education, and religion.
