SIKESTON -- Peter Myers of Sikeston has been named Progressive Farmer magazine's 1994 Man of the Year in Missouri Agriculture.
Myers was presented the award by Earl Manning, editor of the magazine, at a recent Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce gathering.
Myers is president of Myers Land Management Co., through which he helps farmers develop managerial skills, understand government compliance with land use and meet financial commitments, Manning said in presenting the award.
Myers formerly operated 1,700 acres in row-crop and livestock farms. In 1982 he became chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service, and later was appointed assistant secretary of the USDA. After that he became deputy secretary of agriculture for the USDA.
