CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Personal trainers are the latest trends in the physical fitness industry.

"A person can make a lot of physical fitness progress in a short period of time when they work with a trainer," says Mike Josue, a Certified Personal Trainer here. "Basically, my job is to teach people to exercise correctly and control their weight.

"We work one-on-one with people," said Josue. "It's like a private lesson on fitness. We assess their fitness and design a program to give maximum results."

A Certified Personal Trainer is a member of a small number of new health professionals accredited in the field of exercise prescription in this area.

"Nationally, the idea of a personal training has been popular several years in larger cities," said Josue, who received his C.P.T. training at the National Academy of Sports Medicine in Chicago.

"I am further certified as a personal trainer by Frank Zane, a three-time Mr. Olympia," said Josue. "And I have met and studied with Arnold Schwarzenegger."

Josue explained that he worked with Schwarzenegger during a seminar in Columbus, Ohio, and with Zane at Zane's home in Palm Springs, Calif.

"Both of these experiences were very inspirational and educational," he said.

Josue is on staff at Universal Physique Fitness & Racquet Center, 505 S. Mt. Auburn Road.
