PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- It's a classic case of beginner's luck.
Kathy Johnson, 45, a 911 dispatcher from Perryville, was visiting her brother in Portageville when they stopped in 4 Way Quick Shop. Her brother, who buys Show Me 5 Paydown tickets every day, suggested that Johnson buy one too.
She bought one ticket -- her first -- and won $50,000, tax paid.
"I've never won anything in my life," she said.
Johnson said she will use the money to pay bills.
Since the game began Nov. 6, 2000, 77 players have matched all five numbers drawn to win $50,00 tax paid.
To be tax paid, the Missouri Lottery will pay 25 percent federal and 4 percent state withholding taxes for the top prize. Depending on personal income, winners may owe additional taxes, or they may be entitled to a refund. Total value of the top prize is $70,422.55. After withholding, winners receive $50,000.
