PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Police have charged a Perryville woman with allegedly abusing her 19-month-old child.

According to Perryville police chief Keith Tarrillion, Jamie L. Wood, 28, was arrested Wednesday after family members reported the child's injuries to police. After investigators said they found several bruises and injuries to the child's forehead and side of the face, the child was transported to an area hospital for further examination.

Tarrillion said that during an initial interview Wood said the child had fallen from the bed, though Tarrillion said those injuries were not consistent with that type of fall. Wood later told investigators she caused the injuries.
