JACKSON -- Perryville High's baseball team wielded some hot bats Monday as the Pirates blasted host Jackson 15-7 in a makeup game. The contest had originally been rained out last Friday.
The Pirates, who evened their record at 2-2, had 13 hits, including three home runs. Shawn Duvall homered twice and added another hit along with four runs batted in while Nick Adams ripped a grand slam among his two hits.
Joel Heuring doubled twice and had three RBIs while Ben Kohm and Josh Moll both added two hits.
"I was real impressed with the way we hit the ball," said Perryville coach Dennis Glueck. "The line drives are starting to fall for us."
Ryan Mattingly was the winning pitcher. He worked all seven innings, allowing eight hits while striking out five and walking three.
"It was Ryan's first start and I thought he did a good job," Glueck said.
Chris Schlick suffered the loss as he allowed 10 runs in four innings.
Justin Gladish doubled twice and had three hits while Travis Stevens added two hits for the Indians, who fell to 2-3.
Both teams will be right back in action today, Jackson at home against Chaffee and Perryville at Scott City.
St. Vincent 7, Grandview 6
HILLSBORO -- St. Vincent's Cory Strattman pounded his third double of the game to drive home Bryan Meyer and snap a 6-6 tie in the seventh inning Monday.
The Jefferson County Conference road win improved the Indians to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Strattman and Meyer were both instrumental in the victory. Strattman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Meyer added two hits, stole three bases and scored four runs. Meyer also pitched three innings for the win. Dusty Wengert picked up the save and added two hits.
St. Vincent will host Arcadia Valley Wednesday.
Oak Ridge 2, Valle 1
OAK RIDGE -- Oak Ridge needed nine innings to claim a thrilling home win over Ste. Genevieve Valle Monday.
The Blue Jays (2-1) ended the game in the bottom of the ninth as Darren Hahs singled and scored on a double by Bo Morrison.
Brian Glueck pitched all nine innings for the win. He allowed six hits and two walks while fanning 13.
Hahs and Blake Friese both had two hits for the Blue Jays.
Advance 10, Leopold 0
LEOPOLD -- Advance remained undefeated with a six-inning, run-rule romp on the road Monday.
The Hornets (3-0) had 12 hits. Tyler Hitt doubled and belted a three-run homer while Chris Wallace had a two-run homer among his two hits. Adam Rainey also had two hits.
Wallace pitched five innings for the win. He allowed one hit and fanned 11.
Advance will visit Bernie today.
GIRLS SOCCER
Notre Dame 2, De Soto 0
PACIFIC -- Notre Dame thoroughly dominated play Monday and came away with a shutout win in the opening round of the Pacific Tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-3-1) will play Hillsboro at 7 o'clock tonight in the semifinals. The finals will be Thursday night.
"We totally dominated the game," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley. "I bet we had 30 or 40 shots. We struggled putting the ball in net, but we did a great job of moving the ball and we finally scored a couple."
Katie Mehner gave the Lady Bulldogs the lead for good with a goal midway in the second half. Holly Montgomery added the final goal with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
Shannell Bueltemann recorded the shutout in goal.
SOFTBALL
Kelly 8, Scott City 1
BENTON -- Brittany Lambert held Scott City to three hits Monday as Kelly rolled to victory at home.
Lambert struck out seven and walked two.
Kelly scored two runs in the first and had three-run innings in the second and fourth for an 8-0 lead.
Amy O'Brien suffered the loss for Scott City (2-1). She gave up 11 hits in six innings. Andee Heisserer led the Kelly offense with three hits, including a triple and three RBIs. Marissa Essner added two hits.
Chaffee 26, St. Vincent 1
PERRYVILLE -- Chaffee scored 21 runs in the second inning Monday and destroyed host St. Vincent in a game stopped after three innings because of the 15-run rule.
The Lady Red Devils (3-0) had only eight hits but they benefited from 15 walks and eight errors.
Jill Little and Jodi Pferrerkorn both had two hits for Chaffee. Little had four RBIs and Pfefferkorn three.
Amy Burnett was the winning pitcher. She allowed one hit and an unearned run while fanning five in three innings.
Chaffee will host Delta Wednesday.
Leopold 7, Advance 5
LEOPOLD -- Leopold built a 6-0 lead Monday, then held off visiting Advance to improve to 3-0.
Lisa Peters went the distance for her third win of the season, striking out six and allowing seven hits. Advance scored all its runs in the final two innings, four coming in the top of the seventh.
Jennifer VanGennip had two of Leopold's five hits and added an RBI. Iris Eftink added an RBI triple.
GOLF
Cape Central 167, Notre Dame 179
Cape Central claimed a 12-stroke victory Monday over Notre Dame at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
"We're winning, but we've been very inconsistent," said Central coach Dick Wadlington. "We're getting different scores from different people every time out."
Central's Dane McLaird earned medalist honors, shooting a 39 on the par 35 course. Central's other scores came from Danny Groesbeck (41), Jeff Haycraft (42) and Mike Oslund 45. The Tigers are now 4-1.
John Brey led Notre Dame (4-2) with a nine-hole score of 40. Following Brey for the Bulldogs were twin-46's from Chris Koeper and Matt Howard. Jonathan LeGrand and Nick Martin tied for the fourth spot with 47's.
Jackson comes to the Cape Country Club Wednesday to face the Tigers.
Jackson wins triangular meet
JACKSON -- Jackson held off two visiting teams to win a triangular meet Monday at Kimbeland Country Club.
The Indians (3-2) had a 176 score, followed by Bloomfield with 179 and Perryville with 183.
Jackson's scores were Gabe Estes, 41; Spencer Knowlan, 43; Craig Hutson, 46; Tom Henderson, 46; and Andy Kohl, 46.
BOYS TENNIS
Sikeston 7, Cape Central 2
SIKESTON -- Cape Central suffered its first dual loss of the season as host Sikeston prevailed Monday.
The Tigers (4-1) got singles wins from No. 2 Aaron Moore and No. 5 Nathan Skinner.
"Sikeston has a good team with a lot of seniors," said Central coach Bud Craven.
Sikeston also won the JV match 13-8.
Central will host powerful Lone Oak, Ky., today.

Kelly teams triumph
BENTON -- Kelly finished first in both the boys and girls divisions during a meet it hosted Monday.
The boys had 139 points to hold off runnerup Chaffee (100) in the five-team field. Then came East Prairie (75), Oran (11) and Scott City (6), which brought only a few competitors.
In the four-team girls meet, Kelly romped with 134 points. Then came Chaffee (55), East Prairie (34) and Oran (3).
Chad Melton was the only double individual winner for Kelly's boys as he captured the 110 and 300 hurdles.
The Hawks also got wins from Lucas Choate (1600), Joe Livingston (400), Caine Householder (pole vault), Nathen King (800) and C.O. Scheffer (3200).
Chaffee's Andy Proffer won both the long jump and high jump while freshman Benji Boitnott captured the 200.
On the girls side, Kelly double winners were Pam Essner (100, 200), Amy Arteme (1600, 3200), Tabitha Shankle (800, long jump) and Megan Nelson (400, triple jump). Others winning were Jenny Forck (100 hurdles), Carolina Franca (shot put) while the Lady Hawks also swept all four relays.
Chaffee winners were Kate Nolen (high jump) and Angela Holland (300 hurdles).
JV BASEBALL
Cape Central 17, Notre Dame 7
Cape Central's JV beat rival Notre Dame Monday in a six-inning, run-rule game at Arena Park.
Tim Huckstep and John Snider each had two hits for Central, with Huckstep homering. Justin Cook was the winning pitcher.
The schools also played a freshmen game and Central prevailed 13-5. Ricky Ogles and Bobby Wunderlich both had two hits, with Ogles getting four RBIs. Jay Pierce was the winning hurler.
