PERRYVILLE -- The Perryville city collector will continue to be an elected city office, city voters decided Tuesday.
In all, 714 voters were against turning the position into one appointed by the mayor and the Perryville Board of Aldermen. Voting in favor of the measure were 421 people.
The position is currently an elected one. City officials contended money could be saved by allowing the city collector to be an appointed position. The position would have no longer been full time.
Perry County voters turned back Proposition B by a margin of about three to one. County officials estimated voter turnout at about 32 percent.
Voting for Proposition B were 1,941 county voters; 667 cast ballots against the measure.
