PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- An 18-year-old man was killed this week in a head-on traffic collision in Perry County.
David A. Grass of Perryville, was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Saint Francis Medical Center.
Grass was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 north on Route B a half mile outside of Perryville when a southbound 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix crossed the center line and struck the victim's truck around 1:40 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The Perryville Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated Grass from his truck, fire chief Charles LaRose said.
The driver of the Pontiac, a 29-year-old man whose name was not released, was taken to Perry County Memorial Hospital in Perryville with moderate injuries, the highway patrol stated.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, both of which were totaled, according to LaRose.
The accident occurred on a slight curve on Route B, and a third vehicle sideswiped the Pontiac as it was going around the bend after the initial collision, LaRose said. That driver was not injured.
The chief said aside from a light fog in the area Sunday morning, road conditions were fine.
No autopsy was conducted on Grass, who died as the result of injuries from the accident, Perry County Coroner Herbert Miller said.
A representative from the highway patrol was not available to give further details on the accident.
