PERRYVILLE -- The Board of Aldermen has announced Perryville's road improvement projects for 1999.
The five projects on the list are Edgemont Boulevard and Cloe, Gray, North Moulton and Jefferson streets.
The streets are asphalt with no curb or gutters. They will be replaced with a concrete surface and curbs and gutters will be installed.
"We will basically tear them out and start over," said City Manager Craig M. Lindsley.
Some of the roads could be slightly widened, he added.
The city is accepting bids for the projects until Feb. 12. Once the contractors are selected, road work is expected to begin in the spring or summer. All five projects should be completed by the end of the year.
The projects are part of the city's six-year capital improvements plan, which is revised annually. The work will be funded through general city revenue and special assessments.
Projects for the capital improvements plan are selected in two ways: First, residents of a particular street can petition the city for improvements; and second, the two aldermen from each ward submit a list of desired projects in their sections of the city.
"We combine those, and that is how we put the project list together," Lindsley said.
Projects currently on the six-year plan are scheduled for completion in 2005.
"It's been an ongoing program in Perryville for the last 12 years," Lindsley said. "We've paved a number of streets in the community, and it's been enormously successful. Our goal is to pave every street in the city."
