PERRY VOTERS FAVOR PROP B

PERRYVILLE -- The majority of Perry County voters casting votes at the polls Tuesday supported the right to carry concealed weapons.

Proposition B passed 2,085-1,367 in the county.

Proposition A was defeated by 574 votes.

Thirty-three percent of the registered voters who cast ballots in Perry County also elected several incumbents or uncontested candidates to city alderman seats and town boards.

All vote totals include absentee ballots cast earlier.

Perryville voters elected three aldermen, with only one contested race in Ward 2. Winners were Paul Dunlap, Ward 1; Randy J. Leible, Ward 2; and Gary J. Schumber, Ward 3. In Ward 2, Leible defeated Robert Keller 309-137.

Thomas Meyer was elected mayor of Altenburg, and Russell Miesner and Michael Hughey were elected to the board of aldermen. All three ran uncontested.

Stanley R. Petzoldt and Timothy A. Bohnert were selected to open seats on the Frohna board of aldermen. Neither candidate was opposed.

In Biehle, voters chose Kenneth L. Buchheit and Timothy M. Peters to fill open seats on the village trustee board.

David Geringer, Keith Trapp Sr. and Brian Stueve were elected as village trustees in Longtown.

Fair weather and warm temperatures throughout the region helped draw voters to the polls.

School board races also filled the ballots.

Four candidates filed for three, three-year seats on the Perryville school board. New board members in Perryville are Terry L. Miederhoff with 2,147 votes, Timothy Rhodes with 2,024 votes and Raymond J. Monier with 1,848 votes. Kim R. Moore had 1,478 votes.

Miederhoff was the only incumbent candidate, although Moore had served on the board previously.

Altenburg voters selected two new members for the school board.

Charles Gerler and Colleen Steffens were re-elected with 131 and 177 votes respectively. They were followed by Anthony Mengwasser with 115 votes and Rhonda France with 59.
