Hinkebein receives nursing scholarship
Blair S. Hinkebein is the recipient of the Past President's Parley Nurses Scholarship of the 14th District American Legion Auxiliary.
Hinkebein is a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School and is attending Southeast Missouri State University. She is the daughter of Ron and Susan Hinkebein of Jackson.
Three scholarships go to Oak Ridge graduate
Adam Hahs, a graduate of Oak Ridge High School, recently received a $250 scholarship from Jackson Tire Center, an A+ Schools Designation Scholarship for tuition and books and a $2,000 scholarship from John Fabick Tractor & Caterpillar Co.
Hahs plans to major in heavy equipment technology at Linn State Technical College. He is the son of Jeff and Anita Hahs of Oak Ridge, Mo., and the grandson of Linn and Hazel Hahs of Sedgewickville, Mo., and Guy and Dorothy Seabaugh of Jackson, Mo.
Gosche graduates from university at Rolla
James A. Gosche Jr., son of Jim and Mary Gosche of Cape Girardeau, is a May 2002 graduate of University of Missouri-Rolla with a degree in mechanical engineering.
While attending college, Gosche was a member of the Solar Car Team, Alpha Phi Omega and participated in Newman Center activities. He was also an active member and steward in Phi Kappa Theta and was named to the dean's list.
He is employed as an interior/exterior machine engineer with TG Missouri in Perryville, Mo.
Jackson man named to national dean's list
Steven Ireland of Jackson, Mo., was recently selected to receive recognition in the 25th annual edition of The National Dean's List, 2001-2002 in honor of his collegiate academic accomplishments.
Area students attend Missouri Girls State
Ashleigh Redfearn, Caitlin Bahn, Lisa Roe and Alicia Martin were among the area students who attended the 61st session of Missouri Girls State sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Missouri.
Redfearn is a student at Central High School and is the daughter of Mike and Karen Redfearn.
Throughout high school she had been involved in marching and concert band, soccer, Beta Club, FTA, Spanish Club, Girl Scouts, speech and debate team and drama club.
She is very involved in her church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, through seminary, the congressional choir, and youth group.
Her accomplishments include 'A' Honor Roll and Young Womanhood Recognition through her church.
Bahn is a student at Central High School and is the daughter of Dr. Taylor and Nancy Bahn. She is a member of the National Honor Society, second team all-conference soccer, varsity soccer team and is a seven-year winner of the Presidential Fitness Award.
She is also involved in cheerleading, student senate, Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is vice president of Letterman's Club. She is a member of Cape Bible Chapel and the youth group there. She was sponsored by the Elks Club and American Legion Auxiliary Post 63 for the Girls State session.
Roe is the daughter of Jerry and Mary Roe. She attends Notre Dame Regional High School and St. Vincent de Paul church.
She has participated in FBLA, SADD, Spirit Club, National Honor Society, dance team, cheerleading, swimming, Girl Scouts and Student Council.
She volunteers at St. Francis Medical Center and her trip to Girls State was sponsored by the Elks Club.
Martin attends Jackson High School and is the daughter of Rick and Donna Martin of Burfordville, Mo.
Her accomplishments include honor roll, Hi-Step, Marching Chiefs and concert band. She is a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church where she is active in the senior high youth group.
She is also a member of Conference Council of Youth Ministries and a junior member of Louise K. Juden American Legion Auxiliary Post 63. Her trip to Girls State was sponsored by the auxiliary and the Exchange Club.
Cape students attend honors program
Jennifer Troutman, Katie Maginel and Megan Ladd, all students at Cape Central High School, were among the 22 students from throughout Missouri to attend a recent Conservation Honors Program at University of Missouri-Columbia.
Participants learned about various conservation issues including soil conditions, fisheries, forestry and anthropology and will receive one hour of college credit for completing the course.
Yaremko earns masters of arts degree
Alexandra R. Yaremko of Cape Girardeau received a master of arts degree from Southwest Missouri State University during the summer commencement ceremony Aug. 2.
Jackson student named to university's dean's list
Amanda R. Crouch of Jackson, Mo., was recently named to the summer semester dean's list at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
Dean's list includes local graduate
Gina Fioretti of Cape Girardeau was recently named to the dean's list at Virginia Intermont College for the spring semester 2002.
Fioretti is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Fioretti. She graduated with cum laude honors and a bachelor's degree in equine studies and business administration with a concentration in management.
Jackson student awarded $2,500 scholarship
Kyla Smith, daughter of Rodney Smith of Jackson, Mo., was recently awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the SBC Foundation.
Smith plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University.
Mocherman receives camp effort award
Jack Mocherman of Cape Girardeau recently received the Division Two, 110 Percent Effort Award at Kanakuk Kamp K-Seven.
Cape resident pursues studies at Murray State
Jonathon Donnell West of Cape Girardeau is one of 404 students who have applied for degrees at the end of the summer 2002 semester at Murray State University in Murray, Ky
Two Delta high grads awarded scholarships
Allen Michael Rhodes and Amy Nicole Ainsworth have been awarded the Mary Maud and Norvell Hosea Scholarship for $500.
Rhodes is the son of Mike and Brenda Rhodes of Whitewater, Mo. He is a 2000 graduate of Delta High School and is currently enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University.
Ainsworth is a graduate of Delta High School and plans to pursue a degree in nursing. While in high school, she was active in science club, FCCLA and made the honor roll.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and be graduating seniors or former graduates of Delta High School.
