Wilkinson awarded two scholarships

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Jennifer Wilkinson of Jackson recently received the Mary Ann Baugher O'Brien Special Education Scholarship Fund award and the General Federation of Women's Club Scholarship to the University of Missouri-Columbia's College of Education.

Wilkinson is seeking her master's degree in special education; she also received her bachelor's degree in education from MU. Wilkinson is a 1996 graduate of Jackson High School.

She is the daughter of Henry and Karen Wilkinson.

Cotton receives master's degrde

Lawrence Christopher Cotton of Cape Girardeau received a master's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., during the summer commencement ceremony.

Cape GED graduates will be honored

The Cape Girardeau Adult Education and Literacy program will honor 2002 GED graduates at a cap and gown ceremony at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Career and Technology Center, 1080 S. Silver Springs Road.

A reception hosted by Zonta will immediately follow. The public is invited to attend.

Scott City students earn awards, scholarships

Ryan Corn, Jennifer Pinkston and Christopher Bradshaw, all students at Scott City High School, recently received scholarships and awards.

Corn received the Albert Feldhoff Scholarship to Southeast Missouri State University. He is the son of Lynn and Cheryl Corn of Scott City and is an honor roll student involved in band, choir, FBLA and FCCLA.

Pinkston is a Wendy's High School Heisman nominee, awarded by the National Association of Secondary Principals and Scott City High School, and also received the Principal's Leadership Award.

She is involved in National Honor Society where she serves as president, student council secretary, yearbook staff, FBLA, Pep Club and science club.

She also participates in basketball, softball, volleyball, track and cheerleading. Pinkston is the daughter of Jim and Jill Pinkston of Benton, Mo.

Bradshaw was named as an Elks' student of the month for August, a Wendy's High School Heisman nominee, and the Cape Girardeau Exchange Club's youth of the month for October.

Bradshaw is the son of Joe Bradshaw of Cape Girardeau and Diann Bradshaw of Scott City.

He is involved in band, honor roll, Sophomore Pilgrimage and basketball. He has been named to the honor roll and has received awards in marching band and math.

Activity Week raises funds for Notre Dame

The annual Activity Week was held at Notre Dame Regional High School Sept. 20-28. Activity Week involves students, staff, parents and supporters of Notre Dame in raising funds to reduce the operating budget of the school.

Raffles, magazine subscriptions, candy and fruit were sold with all proceeds going toward the school budget. The school raised over $88,000.

The senior class provided the largest profit per capita, $23,782, and had their king and queen candidate crowned at the Activity Week Dance Sept. 28. Senior Dustin Haupt raised the most money as an individual with a total of $4015.47 and will become the principal for a day.

Overall class ranking was: seniors, $267.22; freshmen $219.51; sophomores $160.00; juniors $145.77.
