Teri Garr discloses long-held MS secret

NEW YORK -- After nearly 20 years of dealing with the illness, Teri Garr has revealed that she has multiple sclerosis.

Garr, who received an Oscar nomination for supporting actress for 1982's "Tootsie," told CNN's Larry King that she kept the disease secret for years because she "didn't feel it was necessary to tell anybody."

"I really didn't think there was any reason to come out and say anything about it," she said on "Larry King Live" Tuesday night.

Garr said she didn't know she had the disease for several years because MS is difficult to diagnose. She said she's coming forward to help other people deal with the disease.

"I think now, the good news is there is a lot of good medicine out there," she said. "If I can just help people to feel better."

The 53-year-old comedic actress got her start as a dancer in the '60s, landing spots in several Elvis Presley movies, including "Kissin' Cousins." She also starred in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "The Black Stallion" and "Dumb and Dumber."

About 350,000 Americans have MS, a nerve disease that causes symptoms including numbness, muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. There is no cure.

CIty officials to honor talk-show host

LAWRENCE, Ind. -- David Letterman is getting his wish to have a road named after him -- even though it's not exactly what he hoped for.

The City Council in this Indianapolis suburb unanimously approved a resolution Monday renaming a portion of a street after the talk-show host, an Indianapolis native.

The resolution acknowledges there has been public interest in naming a thoroughfare for Letterman. A recent gag on "Late Show" has had him asking Indianapolis officials to rename Interstate 465 the "David Letterman Expressway."

Lawrence officials couldn't do that, but the council did rename as David Drive a portion of 59th Street near the former Fort Harrison.

It crosses an existing street called Letterman Road -- named years ago for a hospital in San Francisco -- which runs through an area that once was part of the fort.

As a result, there's an intersection of David Drive and Letterman Road "that recognizes this Hoosier legend," the resolution states.

But when officials erected the new street sign Tuesday afternoon, one side was misspelled "Daivd." The sign was repainted and replaced Wednesday morning, he said.

Actor seeks divorce from former Playmate

LOS ANGELES -- Lorenzo Lamas has filed for a divorce from former Playboy Playmate Shauna Sand, his wife of six years.

The actor said Monday in a statement that he and his wife had separated "due to problems of incompatibility" but they had "mutual respect for each other" and are ensuring their children "are protected and loved."

On Tuesday, Superior Court divorce documents showed the 44-year-old son of actor Fernando Lamas and actress Arlene Dahl separated from Sand, 31, last Friday.

Lamas cites irreconcilable differences in the documents. Terms of custody and spousal support were not detailed.

The two married in April 1996 and have three daughters.

Madonna puts some kick in latest music video

LONDON -- Madonna's newest video is giving her the chance to get out a little aggression.

A still photo released Tuesday from the "Die Another Day" video shows the 44-year-old trying her hand at karate. The song is from the soundtrack of the upcoming James Bond film of the same name.

The video premieres today on MTV.

Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, said in July that the singer was also making a brief cameo appearance in the movie. The song is Madonna's first new release for more than a year.

"Die Another Day," starring Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry, comes out Nov. 22.

Country singer Willis expecting twins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Country singer Kelly Willis is pregnant with twins, a spokeswoman said.

Willis, 34, and her 36-year-old husband, Bruce Robison, already have a 20-month-old son, Deral Robison.

"Bruce and I are thrilled that we're about to be outnumbered by children," Willis said. "We couldn't be happier."

The twins are due in April, Rykodisc Records spokeswoman Michelle Jaeger said Tuesday.
