Organizers of a peace rally and music festival are hoping to beat forecasted inclement weather on Saturday and proceed with plans for several speakers, including ministers, professors and a World War II veteran.

The People for Peace event will begin at 1 p.m. at the Capaha Park bandstand on Broadway in Cape Girardeau and conclude at 4 p.m.

"We just want to be a continuing presence that stands for peace," said Dr. Bob Polack, event organizer and professor in the social work department at Southeast Missouri State University. He said people in other nations should realize that not all Americans favor war.

The lineup includes Polack, who will speak on supporting the troops while supporting peace, Father J. Friedel of Catholic Campus Ministries, several other professors and local residents. Dr. Lincoln Grahlfs, World War II veteran, is the keynote speaker.

Polack said the event will be held rain or shine unless the weather is too bad to safely hold it outdoors.
