Kiblinger finalist in Pre-Teen America

Theresa Kiblinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Kiblinger of Cape Girardeau, has been selected as a finalist in the Pre-Teen Missouri Scholarship and Recognition Program to be held Aug. 30 through Sept. 2 at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, Mo.

Cape student named to president's list

Sarah Belcher of Cape Girardeau recently was named to the Union University presidents list in Jackson, Tenn.

Local students honored with awards

Chad Pender and Molly Williams, students at the Sikeston Career and Technology Center, won the Missouri State VICA Skills USA team competition in television production in April.

The team advanced to the national competition at Central Missouri State University in June.

Pender was also named to the Who's Who Among High School Students.

Pender is the son of Jim and Rhonda Pender of Benton, Mo., and a senior at Kelly High School.

Williams is a senior at Richland High School.

Brian Pender, also the son of Jim and Rhonda Pender, was named to the Who's Who Among High School Students.

He is a 2002 graduate of Kelly High School.

JHS grad awarded engineering scholarship

Katie Clark has been awarded a Women in Engineering and Science Scholarship to attend the University of Missouri -- Rolla.

She also received the Aid Association for Lutherans/ Lutheran Brotherhood All-College Scholarship.

Clark is a 2002 graduate of Jackson High School. She is the daughter of Allen and Joyce Clark of Gordonville, Mo. She is currently majoring in engineering.

Jackson student wins merit scholarship

Sophonisba R. Gathman of Pocahontas, Mo., was recently awarded a Merit Scholarship to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

Gathman is a graduate of Jackson High School and plans to major in anthropology at Macalester College.

All-American Collegiate Scholar announced

Heather Renee Fitzgerald of Mound City, Ill., has been named an All-American Collegiate Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.

Fitzgerald attends Shawnee Community College.

She is the daughter of Patsy Fitzgerald of Mound City and is the granddaughter of Mary Sidwell Tomberlin and Gene Stone, both of Mound City.

Grojean earns magna cum laude honors

Renee Tiffany Grojean, daughter of Ron Grojean of Jackson, Mo., and Faye Powell of Maumelle, Ark., recently graduated magna cum laude from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo.

She received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration.

Following an internship this summer with the Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney's office in Jackson, Grojean will be attending law school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City in the fall.

Grojean is a 1998 graduate of Sikeston High School.

Local students graduate from Washington Univ.

Evan Haas, son of Kathy and Mark Haas of Jackson, Mo., recently graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Washington University in St. Louis.

Jerome D. Tidwell, son of the late Virgil Tidwell and grandson of the late Leonard and Myrtle Tidwell of Advance, Mo., recently received a masters of business administration from Washington University.

Tidwell was a 1983 graduate of the University of Missouri - Rolla, where he received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. He is a graduate of Advance High School.

Cape native receives degree from SLU

Matthew Fisher received a Business Administration degree in Marketing from St. Louis University May 18.

He will begin a management training program with the Buckle in St. Louis this month.

Fisher is a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and is the son of Tim and Rita Fisher.

Green selected to attend MU teacher workshop

Melody Green, a science teacher at Leopold High School, has been selected to participate in the Nuclear Science and Engineering for Secondary Science Teachers program June 24-28 at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Green teaches seventh grade life science, eighth grade earth science, physical science, biology, chemistry and physics.

Estes awarded Noranda Aluminum Scholarship

Andrew Estes, a 2002 Scott City High School graduate, has been awarded the Noranda Aluminum Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2002-03 school year.

Estes is the son of Sandy Estes and the late Kim Estes.

Honor society chooses Robert for membership

Tim Robert, a junior chemical engineering student at the University of Missouri at Rolla, has been selected for inclusion in Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society.

He also received the Roy N. McBride Scholarship for $4,000 and the James W. Johnson Scholarship in chemical engineering for $600.

Educator spends time with MoDOT

Dorothy Heuring, a teacher at Kelly High School, spent a week with the Missouri Department of Transportation in June researching everything from safety concerns to drainage issues while seeking a solution to make improvements.

The week-long internship was part of Three Rivers Community College's summer business and industry internship program.

Alumnus honors parents, establishes scholarship

Edward Jenkins of New York, N.Y., formerly of Cape Girardeau, has made a commitment of $10,000 to the Kansas State University Foundation to establish the Betty and George Jenkins Memorial Scholarship in honor of his parents.

The scholarship will provide support to students enrolled in the College of Architecture, Planning and Design at Kansas State University.

Jenkins is a 1977 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in architecture.

Penland named to trustee's list

Andrea Penland has been named to the spring Trustees' List at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. She is the daughter of Chuck and Joyce Penland of Jackson, and a 2000 graduate of Jackson High School. She is a junior mathematics major at the university.

Students named to the Trustees' List must have been enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and earn a grade point average of 3.85 to 4.0.
