The Southeast Missourian asked TCI Cable TV subscribers what they thought about the new Encore movie channel that was recently added to each subscriber's cable service. The channel is free in June and may be canceled by not paying the extra $1 monthly charge on the July bill. The charge will increase after May, 1992.
Rodger Reed: "I'm an avid movie buff, so enjoy it. I'll probably keep the service after the free period is over, because it's an inexpensive way to see a lot of movies. If you rent two movies a month, you've paid for the service."
Rosezetta Moyers: "I like it and I'll probably keep it. You don't have to watch commercials on it, so the movies don't last so long. It's good if you don't have a VCR. I don't have any other premium movie channel, so this is a good one for me."
Gary Popp: "I already have Showtime and HBO, so I'll probably cancel the service. A dollar a month isn't bad, but when they raise the price of Encore, it's not worth it because they are on the other channels. It's good if you like old movies and don't have the other channels."
Christine Murakami: "It has some good movies on it. I like the older movies. We have HBO, but this is different. Even if they raise it later up to $4.95 a month, it's better than paying $20 to go out to the movies once month. We'll probably keep it."
Terri Welker: "We have plenty of channels already that we're willing to watch, so we will probably not continue the Encore channel after the free period. Some of the movies are repeats of what we get on HBO. We would rather have the newer movies."
Clifton Allee: "Basic cable TV is all that we want. I don't want my kids watching movies like the Josephine Baker Story that was on Encore. From start to finish, it was nudity. If I'm out in the yard, I don't want them seeing nudity on TV at 10 a.m. or at 6 p.m."
