The Southeast Missourian asked people, "If Iraq withdraws from Kuwait, should the United States continue fighting to force Saddam Hussein from power?"
Frank Terry: "At this point, I think Saddam Hussein should be taken from power. If we let him go now, there's no telling what he might do in the future with his military apparently intact. We should go ahead and take him out and eliminate his military capability."
Roy Brown: "I think he's a dictator. If somebody doesn't put him out of power, he'll cause more trouble later on. We should see to it that he stays out of Kuwait, or any other country. We should do whatever it takes."
Charles James: "I feel that once we get him out of Kuwait, that's where we should stop. That's what we went in there for, and if we go any further than that, all we'll have is more casualties. I would get our boys home."
Salena Garner: "I think we should bring our troops home once Saddam Hussein gets out of Kuwait. That's the job we went there to do. If he pops up somewhere else, then they'll have to worry about it later."
Janet Hatton: "I think we should keep on with it, because he doesn't need to be in power. We should do what is necessary to take out his military capability so he can't use it any more."
Dr. Dorothy C. Hardy: "When the president said we were going to war, it was with the understanding that we were protecting Kuwait and that we wanted Saddam Hussein out of that region. We should not change our initial goal. The U.S. cannot patrol the whole world."
