The Southeast Missourian asked people about their interest in New Year's resolutions.

Ed Meadows: "I usually try to make one or two of the standard resolutions, like lose weight and exercise more. I don't usually stick to it, though. It normally goes well for the first two or three months of the year."

Sally Harrington: "I make them every year. It gives you an excuse to do something that will make you a better person. If you can keep it through the night and remember it the next day, then you're doing good."

Sue Gleason: "I always have resolutions, but sometimes I don't always follow through on them. I make them about the day before New Year's. They're good for about a week. Some of them I will renew later in the year."

Ken Martin: "I make them because it gives you a fresh start and a positive attitude for the new year. Sometimes it works and you achieve something, and sometimes you have to start over again. That's the way people are. We all mess up."

John Cobb: "I have made them and broken them over the years. I feel like when it's time to make a change, I will do it then and not wait for New Year's to do it. Spring is a better time to make changes instead of the dead of winter."

Janis Crites: "I'm going to try real hard this year to quit smoking. I also make goals for work. I'm sure that if people find out about my resolutions that they will be on me about them, but I'm serious and determined."
