The Southeast Missourian asked people at the Southeast Missouri District Fair what they like about going to the fair.
David Wagner: "I moved back to this area a couple of years ago, so I remember the fair very well. I still like to venture down through the rides, but I don't ride any more. I like the fair opening on a Sunday, because I'm usually busy during the week and it's hard to come then."
Bonnie Woods: "I just enjoy watching the people and looking at the concession stands, and eating. I'm going to try some of those home-made potato chips. I plan to ride the Ferris wheel and the Tilt-a-Whirl. We walk around the entire fair. I'll probably come back again."
John Wagner: "I like the excitement in the fair atmosphere. I like to see the farm machinery. I was down in the ride area shuffling some kids around. I remember doing that as a child. It brings back excitement by watching the kids. I'll probably come back again."
Cindy Kirn: "I like to do the rides. And eat. Cotton candy, corn dogs, tacos, and nachos. I also go and see the 4-H exhibits, crafts and the animal tents. I like it opening on Sunday and then you can go back again later in the week."
Rock Wilferth: "I grew up near the fairgrounds and as a boy I liked to come over to the fair. Now I like to see the livestock, machinery and the conservation department display. I'll probably come to the fair twice and maybe see one of the shows if I can."
Betty Wills: "When I come to the fair, the smell of food makes me hungry. I like the Polish sausages and elephant ears. I enjoy the exhibits in the Arena Building. I also like to walk through the ride area. It's just thrilling to watch the kids and it brings back memories when I did it."
