With television's Emmy awards presented Sunday, the Southeast Missourian asked people how television plays a role in their lives.
Doc Cain: "I enjoy watching television as an entertainment outlet. With all the choices that you have right now, you can watch just about anything you like. Late evenings is when I usually get to watch, with old movies and talk shows."
Diane Robinson: "I watch television when I have nothing better to do. I prefer shows on the Discovery Channel and Arts and Entertainment. It's relaxing and you feel that you're at least watching something worthwhile that can also educate you."
Paul Anderson: "I'm more interested in the news programs and what's going on in the world. Most entertainment shows don't appeal to me at all. I try to keep up with things happening in our city, so I like to watch the city council meetings."
Linda Kester: "TV can take too much of your time. Sometimes we'll watch something that isn't so good, and it keeps us from talking to each other. The Christian Channel 45 fills a void here with shows that you can be comfortable in watching with your family."
J.T. Patton: "Television gives me insight and different views on various topics. Shows such as "Beverly Hills 90210" give you certain topics and issues that need to be addressed in today's society. I also watch news and some `reality-based' programs."
Diann Newell: "I don't care much for television. My husband always has the news or weather on, and I might watch a little of something that is happening. When my family watches TV, I'll shut the door and do ironing or house things with my radio on."
