The Southeast Missourian asked students at Washington Elementary School how they felt about the use of animals by scientists for testing new medicines.
Erick Harris: "I think they should try new medicines out on animals. That way there won't be so many people dying."
Doris Wolford: "I think they should test them on animals before they test them on people, because a person might die if it doesn't work."
Samantha Criddle: "I think they should do it because animals are different than people. If an animal died from it, a person would not."
Clint Hoffman: "They should do it as long as there are lots of that kind of animal in the world, but I still have feelings for the animal."
Carrie McClard: "I don't really like it, but it would be better if an animal died from testing a new medicine than a person dying from it."
Aaron Sadler: "It's okay to use an animal to test it. Scientists have to test new medicines, and it is better to use animals before using people."
