The Southeast Missourian asked people if the United States should carry out a bombing strike against Iraqi weapons facilities if Saddam Hussein continues to block the destruction of his arsenals by United Nations teams, provided that Iraq was given notice of the raid to avoid harm to civilians.
Susan Dean: "I think we should do something about it. Let the people know ahead of time and take action. We have been too nice to Saddam, and he should be made to account for his actions. It's like he is hiding something."
John Campbell: "We need to do whatever is necessary to prevent Saddam Hussein from possessing or using nuclear or biological weapons. If that means a bombing strike, we'll have to do it. We have no other choice."
Tony McClellon: "I think we should leave that stuff alone. If we do it in the next few months, I would think President Bush is just trying to gain a little political momentum. I think we have already proven a point with the Gulf War."
Sonny Minor: "Saddam needs to be stopped in whatever way is necessary to do that. It has totally gotten out of hand. If we need to use bombs, that's what we should do. I think that the president is doing a good job."
John Hente: "If we go through all diplomatic and peaceful means, and that doesn't do it, then I think we should do whatever it takes. We'll have more problems down the road if it continues the way it has been going."
Tim Hahn: "Saddam Hussein must be saving the weapons for a good reason, because he has not complied with the United Nations. I think the United Nations should carry it through, not just the U.S. Why make the U.S. the bad guy?"
