The Southeast Missourian asked people how they think the addition of new police officers will benefit the city.
Jennifer Tavares: "Considering I had three cops come to my house once to arrest a friend of mine who didn't attend a court date -- she was not notified about the court appearance -- I think they could be taking care of more important problems. At one point at least two to three police cars were in front of his house."
Anne Karmi: "The police force is not large enough to be patrolling all the corners of Cape and do walking patrols, too. Yet, considering we live in a college town with multiple problems, they handle the situation well."
Mike Breig: "They definitely need more police officers. And need a better way to police the area. I've actually seen an owner of a business protect his store from more robberies using a gun."
Tony Boldt: "I don't think we need any more police officers. Crime isn't that big a problem. They concentrate too much on the little stuff. Look at larger issues, police."
Todd DeShazier: "Honestly, they need a few more police. The south-side of town is out of control. I see a drug pattern beginning here. They're losing control of it. A good four or five years, this town is going down."
Mark Lineberry: "They need to revamp the system. They might need more officers but they might not. They wouldn't have a problem if they managed the police force more effectively."
