The Southeast Missourian asked people how they saw Bill Clinton's tax proposal plan helping the nation and if they would be willing to pay more taxes if the proposal passed.

Anita Morrow said, "I would definitely pay more taxes. Anything to help the economy. When I first heard Bill Clinton I did not like him at all. Later, after I heard his campaign I changed my opinion of him. I am all for Clinton and that includes his tax proposal."

Lynette Dady said, "I thought he was supposed to be helping the poor. His tax proposal is not right. He is not helping the poor if he's raising the taxes on them. But if he sticks to what he said during his campaign perhaps he will help the economy eventually."

Tim LeGrand said, "I'm in agreement. Everyone knows something is going to have to be done about the deficit. Now politics is going to start to come into play. The public and the Democrats have their sacred cows they don't want cut. All are going to have to sacrifice something."

Melvin Jones said, "He is going to do what is right for the people I believe. That's all we can ask him to do. I am willing to pay more taxes if that's what needs to be done. We all should be willing to pay more if that is what the nation needs. I totally agree with Clinton."

Chris Clemons said, "To me it was inspiring to hear what he had to say. Now we have a big plan we can see and tackle, something tangible. It is kind of refreshing and good for everybody."

Brian Wiles said, "In his speech he was being honest with the American people. George Bush and Reagan spent and raised the deficit and weren't honest with the people. Everybody thought all was going good. Clinton is honest and willing to tell the truth. I would pay more taxes."
