The Southeast Missourian asked students at Southeast Missouri State University what they thought about the Board of Regents' decision to raise tuition again.
Melinda Purvis
Senior
It's really stupid for them to raise the rates all the time, every year. I'm graduating this year and even if I were planning on going to graduate school, I couldn't afford it.
Hope Cobin
Sophomore
I think it's kind of uncalled for in some ways. They say that tuition hikes each year are going to benefit the students, but I don't see that happening.
Diana Estrada
Sophomore
I don't like it at all. Don't they do this every year? It sure seems like it. I'm having trouble getting financial aid -- I've applied three times -- and it's getting so that I'm just not able to afford school anymore.
Nathan Boegler
Senior
I think it's bad that they have to raise the rate every year, but I also feel it is a necessity so that this school is able to compete with other schools by providing computers, better housing. The money has to come from somewhere.
Susan Flayer
Junior
I think that with the way the university is cutting faculty and staff, the tuition increase is totally unwarranted. I can't understand it at all. The housing rates went up in my dorm, too. I suppose I feel sort of bitter.
Sandy Hill
Junior
I just think its in line with a lot of other universities that are raising rates too. Presumably, they are doing it for the same reasons. Even so, I'm not really happy about it either.
