The Southeast Missourian asked people if they favored proposed legislation in Missouri that would charge anyone under 21 years old with DWI if they are caught while driving with any amount of alcohol in their blood?
David Slaughter, Cape Girardeau
"If they're not legally drunk they shouldn't charge them. According to the law .10 (of one percent) is legally drunk. They made the law being .10, it should be for anyone."
Kyle Grubbs, Cape Girardeau
"Yes, because that's the only way they can stay consistent. It's against the law to drink if you're under the age of 21 and if they don't prosecute those who have alcohol in their system who are under the age of 21, that law is basically invalid."
David Medley, Poplar Bluff
"I would agree with that. If they are under 21 it's (alcohol) not a legal thing for them to have so, yes, I would agree with it. You know when you get into that age and you look at all of the accidents and the drunk driving, you have to make a stand somewhere so I can't argue with it."
Mary Hoehn, Perryville
"Yes, I agree with that. I think that if juveniles are going to be stupid enough to partake in drinking that they should stay off the roads because they are just endangering others lives and the rest of their life too. They would have to live with that if they hurt somebody."
Stacie McFadden, Cape Girardeau
"I would agree because they are a minor and they shouldn't have alcohol to begin with. The main reason I would agree with it is because where I work, there are some younger people that aren't old enough to drink but they've had some accidents and not been punished for them at all. If their parents can't keep them from drinking then at least the law could."
Stan McFadden, Cape Girardeau
"I'd have to agree with it. They know what they were getting into when they started drinking. They know they are not suppose to drink and yet they're out driving while they are drinking. They deserve to be punished."
