A pedestrian was killed crossing North Kingshighway on Tuesday night.

Around 6:30 p.m., a 50-year-old woman was running across Kingshighway when she stopped in the median, let a few cars pass and ran into the street where she was struck by a southbound vehicle in the right hand lane, Cape Girardeau Police Department patrolman Joe Thomas said at the scene. The impact threw the woman onto the hood of the vehicle and the windshield.

Police declined to release more details.

The woman, who police have not yet identified, was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:31 p.m.

A purse and a pair of boots were near the car that hit the woman in the right shoulder as crews cleared the scene.
