Cape Girardeau police have released the name of a woman killed Tuesday night after she was hit by a car while trying to cross North Kingshighway.
Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton identified the woman as Connie Lang, a 50-year-old resident of Cape Girardeau County, police spokesman Darin Hickey said.
Clifton said Wednesday that the official cause of death was massive blunt force trauma, and toxicology reports will take four to six weeks.
Hickey said police still aren't sure where the woman was headed or what she was doing when she attempted to cross the highway from east to west around 6:30 p.m. and was hit by a car driven by a 58-year-old Cape Girardeau man. Hickey said there will be no charges filed against the driver.
Police do know Lang entered the center median lane of the highway, paused, and continued to cross when she was hit, Hickey said. Lang may have been trying to reach the Super 8 motel, Hickey said, because the incident occurred close to the entrance of the motel parking lot.
An accident report was unavailable Wednesday evening.
Police at the scene Tuesday night said the impact threw Lang onto the hood and windshield of the car. She was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 7:31 p.m.
Some of Lang's personal belongings, including her purse, were found near the car.
