Pearle Vision Center has closed its retail operation at West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau.
The store's customer files have been transferred to Pearle Vision Center at 1916 N. Westwood in Poplar Bluff.
Pearle Vision opened in Cape Girardeau in 1981 and in 1989 expanded into an operation that made lens while the customer watched and waited.
Pearle Vision officials, contacted in Dallas, gave no reason for closing, except to say it was a corporate decision.
Other Pearle Vision sites in a tri-state area include those at Paducah, Ky., Carbondale, Ill., and St. Louis.
Pearle Vision, founded by Dr. Stanley Pearle in 1961, has more than 900 stores worldwide. Pearle centers offer eye exams and an extensive selection of eyeglass frames and contact lens.
