Almost everyone involved will benefit from the new fund-raising campaigns announced this week by the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
The "Paws to Recycle" aluminum recycling program will help the environment while animal lovers and pets alike will benefit from the "Paw Crawl '95."
The society will earn operating funds and free Friskies pet food for participating in the nationwide recycling program.
The Humane Society is recycling aluminum cans that will help earn funds for homeless animals. By joining the program, the society is also competing for a $3,000 cash prize for its community involvement.
Paws to Recycle, is sponsored by the American Humane Association, Friskies PetCare Co. and Aluminum Company of America.
The humane society is accepting cans at the shelter, 2536 Boutin Drive, and at Sides Steel Supply and Metal Recycling Co., 80 Broadview. Cans will be accepted for the program from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31. However, the society accepts cans all year to help with maintenance costs.
The Paw Crawl '95 is a new fund-raiser for the society. It is a 1 1/2-mile walk scheduled for Sept. 30 at Arena Park.
Participants may walk as individuals or teams and are welcome to bring pets -- but should contact the shelter for rules.
Preregistration is $10 a participant and $12 on the day of the event. Registration includes lunch and a "Paw Crawl" T-shirt.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 at the Lutheran Men's Shelter at Arena Park. Following the walk, Carla Karr, a dog obedience trainer, will conduct a training class.
For more information about these fund-raising events, contact the Humane Society at 334-5837.
