In a letter last week, Col. Roger D. Stottlemyre said a preliminary inquiry into trooper Chris Graves allegations do not support a criminal investigation, and that the patrol is prohibited from investigating civil matters.

On March 18, Graves had told aldermen about a Dexter department head who had inquired about the whereabouts of Graves' children and who had made innuendoes and vague threats to Graves and his family. Dexter Mayor John Pruitt had asked for the investigation.

City administrator Mark Stidham said Graves will be invited to meet with city officials to discuss the situation.
