Areas in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois remain under a freezing rain advisory until 6 p.m. Early morning commuters may experience minor icing associated with below-freezing temperatures and light sleet or freezing rain. A 90 percent chance of a wintry mix is forecasted for today.

By the afternoon the National Weather Service expects temperatures to be at or above freezing in most areas and most precipitation should be widespread. Strong south winds in the 15 to 25 mph range could gust above 30 mph at times today and into tonight.

Affected areas in the advisory area include the Missouri counties of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry, Scott and Stoddard and the Illinois counties of Alexander and Union.

The Cape Girardeau police reported one minor accident and some motor vehicles becoming stuck on roadways in various parts of the city this morning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol has responded to numerous crash reports in various parts of the area throughout the morning. No injuries were reported in the accidents.
