Part of money stolen from Dexter schools' account recovered

DEXTER, Mo. -- The Dexter School District has recovered a portion of the more than $300,000 stolen via fraudulent electronic transfers last month. As of Tuesday, the district has received $116,924.33 of the $330,305.43 stolen Aug. 17, according to a news release from Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russell Oliver. Officials are still unsure how the money was stolen, according to the release. Preliminary investigation has found that the bank's security system was not compromised, functioned properly and immediately sent email notifications of suspicious activity to the school district. The school district's security system was not compromised either, the release said.
