Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction while contractor crews begin preparation for the new concrete and asphalt paving. The contractor will begin April 20 undersealing and paving in the northbound lanes from 6 a.m. to 5: 30 p.m. from Route KK to Route B. They will continue to work on the median and shoulders, south of the Fruitland rest area to U.S. 61. Northbound traffic will be diverted to the southbound passing lane during the week of April 26. Starting dates depend on weather. Traffic will remain head to head until concrete and asphalt paving is complete from north of U.S. 61 (exit 105) to Route B (mile marker 117.4). Work is expected to be complete this fall.
