Parents of Jefferson Elementary School students will have until Tuesday evening to request their child be transferred to a better-performing school.

Because students failed to meet targets under No Child Left Behind this year, school choice is an option.

Every transfer will be granted. Letters outlining the procedure to request a transfer are being mailed today. Parents will have to fill out a single form ranking their alternate school choices. Options are Alma Schrader, Blanchard, Clippard, or Franklin Elementary.

Jefferson Principal Mark Cook has had some calls. "We're hoping it will be kept to a minimum. We'll see," said Pat Fanger, assistant superintendent.

Once all the applications are received, staff will work frantically to arrange transportation and notify parents of school assignments in time for school to start Aug. 14.
