CHAFFEE -- Janie Menz Sadler, the mother of two children killed in a mobile home fire here Friday night, was listed in critical but stable condition Sunday night in the burn unit at St. John's Medical Center in St. Louis.
Her husband, 27-year-old Laurel "Andy" Sadler, was in satisfactory condition at the same hospital.
Janie, 25, and Andy were transported to the hospital Saturday after they were seriously burned in the fire which engulfed their mobile home about midnight Friday.
Two of their children, Dewayne Andrew Sadler, 6, and Ashley Dawn Sadler, 7 months, were killed by asphyxiation in the fire.
Another child in the mobile home, 2-year-old Laura Sadler, escaped from the fire uninjured. Another of their children, 8-year-old Steven Menz, was spending the night at a friend's house.
Fire Chief Bill Hagan said the children are staying with grandparents who live next-door to the Sadlers.
He said the probable cause of the fire was a wood-burning stove. But, Hagan said, determining the cause for certain will be difficult because the mobile home was so badly burned.
