Joe Forrester wrings water from his kayak out of a sponge after arriving at the Red Star boat access Tuesday afternoon in Cape Girardeau. The 25-year-old has traveled more than 2,400 miles and raised more than $16,000 of his $20,000 goal in an attempt to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson's disease, which his grandfather was diagnosed with in 2005. Arriving in Cape Girardeau on day 70 of the journey, Forrester hopes to reach New Orleans by early September and thus complete rafting the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Forrester, who is taking a year's leave from medical school at the University of Virginia, said his iPod and radio keep him sane. For more information, go to www.paddlingforparkinsons.com.
