The SEMO Pachyderms will host a panel discussion Thursday that will allow local experts to weigh in on the gun-control debate.
The forum will be at 7 p.m. at Dexter Bar-B-Que in Cape Girardeau. The panel will feature Lt. Barry Hovis of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, who also is a life member of the National Rifle Association; Jacob Ruebel, a conceal-carry instructor; and Jeff Poole, the owner of Absolute Arms and Ammo and the manager of the sporting goods department of a national retailer.
According to a Pachyderms news release, panelists will discuss the original intent of the Second Amendment, the training necessary to receive a conceal-carry permit and how the conceal-carry law affects crime prevention, the proposed gun-control measures in Congress, how the discussion of gun-control measures has affected gun sales and how background checks work.
In addition to the gun control forum, the club will install new officers and directors. For more information, contact Holly Lintner at 200-4073.
