KENNETT, Mo. -- More than 750 applications for assistance were filed from Dunklin County last week at the Salvation Army's Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC). This information was provided during the final Unified Command Center meeting on Tuesday morning.
According to Kennett Fire Chief John Mallott, a total of 757 applications were filed, making Dunklin County the second highest area in need, based on the applications. Scott County filed the most applications with 844.
Mallott said the main areas of concern from the applications were food, gas and fuel, and debris removal.
Only 126 people applied for rent or mortgage assistance.
The information from the MARC will be put together and provided to a long-term recovery committee.
Also in the meeting, City, Light, Gas, and Water (CLGW) Superintendent Larry Jones said the city has 100 percent power availability.
"Unfortunately, we have a lot of work to do," Jones said, as he mentioned poles and lines that are in need of attention.
Jones said he is unsure of the amount of people still without power, but estimates around 100-200. Most of the outages remaining are because residents need to have electricians do repair work.
"As bad as it was, the community was patient with us," Jones said. "It is going to be some time before everything is back to normal."
Mallott followed Jones by saying that there has been a "higher than normal" amount of medical calls the last few days.
"A lot of the calls are do to stress," Mallott said.
Larry Kelley, Dunklin County EMA Director, said all cities in the south were re-energized on Monday evening.
