ST. LOUIS -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, St. Louis police and investigators with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad offered a reward Monday for help in catching those responsible for the theft of more than 100 firearms.

Thieves took about 100 Browning bolt-action rifles and 10 shotgun parts from a train sitting in a rail yard in the city. The thefts were noticed on July 8. The guns were valued at $500 or more each.

The award is for up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

"We do have reason to believe the weapons are on the streets of St. Louis, so we're trying to get the community involved in recovering as many of these weapons as we can," ATF spokesman Larry Scott said.
